Bloomberg View

In my continuing efforts to experiment and play around with different forums (fora?) and audiences and formats, I'm going to be writing about 2 posts a week for Bloomberg View, starting...well, starting yesterday. This means I'll be writing for other magazines only very rarely. It also means that I'll be blogging here at Noahpinion quite a bit less - though I'll link to all the Bloomberg pieces here. I do have a real job, so I have to optimize given my time budget constraint. Anyway, it's an experiment, and we'll see how it goes.

Don't worry, though...anything mean, abstruse, tiresome, hugely controversial, or just plain silly will still be posted here.

  1. Forums. Fora is a Latin pluralisation and none of use here are speaking Latin. Are we?

    (This may be controversial)

    2. If you could find some datums to back up that assertion, it would be much appreciated. :)

Congratulations! You are in good company. Thank you also for trumpeting empiricism in this glorious era of big data. Mama, that's where the fun is (and jobs).

Awww Noah went mainstream.... time to find another outlet for witty dialogue on Economic discourse... le sigh.

They always turn into pundits, the image now needs to be defended.

The mercurial representation of this blogging personality will soon become defined, and will defend his borders with zeal.

    No one sings anymore

    1. Don't worry. Truly controversial and/or mean stuff will still be posted here. :-)

  5. A) Bloomberg has the cleanest interface on the web, so bravo
    B) That means you're now colleagues with McMegan, so boo.
    C) You should use this opportunity to bring back "Not Quite Noahpinion" in my ahpiniion.

    1. You think? The opening screen is OK, I guess. But navigating from one post to another is no fun. And the comments software sucks.

  7. Man, I hate Bloomberg's comment system (Dsiqus). It always loads slowly (or not at all), or it dislikes me.

Anyway. About teaching intro econ solely as theory--I completely agree. But at most places (including the places where I spend my career), students aren't really prepared for any empirical work that uses any formal statistical analysis. About the best I could ever do was to use some simple (simplistic) graphs of data. Even then, for a lot of them (I taught at places where being math-challenged was the norm, not the exception), it was a stretch.

  8. And, by the way, I hope you will post links to your academic research as it appears...some of us like that sort of reading...

Congratulations on 'upgrading' to an even worse comments section, Noah! The section after your econ 101 piece is dire.

  10. Argh!!! The comments over on Bloomberg are five times more idiotic than the comments over here! Please come back!
